Chairman’s Message
by Don Seyfer Driving To A Higher Level
My turn at the wheel of this magnificent ASA machine has finally come. I am very proud of it. ASA members far and wide have toiled for many years to bring it to its excellent level of performance. I steer my work with the association toward maintaining this excellence and pushing to achieve even greater levels of service to the industry. It continues to be quite a journey.Just last month a new strategic plan--our road map of sorts--was completed. It is designed to take us through the next five years. Looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities facing us is exciting, not only for our association, but for our industry. I’m sure you will hear more about the plan in months to come, but here are a few of ASA’s long-term goals: to be members’ primary resource for business and technical education and knowledge; to be recognized as the credible source of automotive service industry information; and to be the industry’s legislative and regulatory representative. I believe these are attainable goals and I was honored to be part of the Strategy Planning Committee that developed these goals.
There will be several roads to travel during my stint as driver. The main road I have chosen is education. Your toll for this road will be one more step of learning. There are a lot of people out there waiting to help you. They are pushing lots of buttons, trying to find your secret code. Your progress is up to you. If you’re not currently placing an emphasis on education, maybe it’s time to shift gears.
As your business grows and prospers, the trade magazines, parts manufacturers, parts outlets and others will prosper as well. Your ability to operate a successful business is directly related to the education and training you take advantage of. Technical and business challenges are more demanding now than they ever have been. Be receptive to all the wonderful people who want to fill your head with knowledge. One step toward expanding your educational "miles" is the Automotive Service Association Management Institute (ASAMI). Find out the variety of topics they have to offer and take a look at the primary areas in your business that you would like to improve. Sign up now and "Learn, baby, learn!"
