ASA and Automakers Reach Landmark Agreement on Right-to-Repair
The Automotive Service Association, the Society of Collision Repair Specialists and the Alliance for Automotive Innovation - the trade group for automakers who manufacture 98% of all cars sold in the United States - have reached a landmark agreement that will add additional safeguards on automotive right-to-repair.
This agreement ensures that independent repair shops will have access to all the vehicle data needed to diagnose and repair issues with their customers' vehicles. The OEMs commit to providing that data even when it's accessible only through telematics. They also make clear that a vehicle's powertrain will not be used to circumvent the terms of the agreement.
