Democrats Adopt Support for Agricultural Right to Repair in Party Platform

The Democratic Party has officially adopted a position in the party's 2024 platform supporting the right to repair for agricultural equipment. This development took place during the Democratic National Committee's 2024 Convention currently transpiring in Chicago, IL.

Under the agricultural policy section, the approved platform states, "Going forward, Democrats will also work to get farmers the right to repair their own equipment, without having to pay big equipment makers for diagnostic tools and repairs." The narrow agricultural scope of this policy position does not necessarily apply to consumer vehicles.

The platform also mentions right to repair under its "Corporate Greed" section in reference to actions taken by the Biden Administration to "boost competition across the country," such as agencies "making hearing aids available over the counter, to reducing cargo and rail shipping costs for goods, to support efforts to allow farmers and other Americans to repair their own equipment." The platform does not provide specific examples of the actions that have made it easier for Americans to repair their own equipment.

The Republican Party's platform for 2024 makes no mention of the right to repair.
