Two Bills – One Blocked and the other Passed – in Utah with Implications for Auto Repairers
Utah's State Legislature approved one bill and blocked another of relevance to automotive repairers.
- House Bill (HB) 522 failed to pass. It would have required non-OEM parts to be "substantially equivalent in quality and function to OEM aftermarket crash parts" if the non-OEM part is requested by the insurer.
- HB 272 was signed into law by the governor. It will increase the number of vehicles subject to the emissions inspection to include vehicles that weigh less than 14,001 lbs. and less than 16,001 lbs. for diesel-powered vehicles. Currently, those vehicles that weigh less than 12,001 lbs. and 14,001 lbs., respectively, are exempt from the emissions inspection requirement.
