U.S. Senate Passes Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

The U.S. Senate passed the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill today in a 69-30 vote. The passage of this legislation comes after months of debate over infrastructure funding. The legislation will now move to be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives.

The legislation includes $7.5 billion for electric vehicle charging stations, approximately half of what President Biden proposed in his original infrastructure plan. The bill also includes an additional $7.5 billion in funding for electric buses, rail, and ferries.

The bipartisan infrastructure plan will likely be paired with a larger $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill to be passed without bipartisan support through the budget reconciliation process. The framework for that legislation was released today by Senate democrats and includes funding for less traditional infrastructure items that were not included in the $1.2 trillion package passed today.
