NHTSA Releases Final Rule Regarding ADB Headlights

The Deputy Administrator for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Steven Cliff, signed a final rule this week to amend NHTSA's lighting standard to permit the certification of adaptive driving beam (ADB) headlamps. This final rule amends Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 to allow ABD headlamps on vehicles sold in the United States.

Adaptive driving beam headlamps use technology to enhance the illumination of a headlamp while reducing glare for other vehicles on the road. This headlamp technology has the potential to increase safety on our highways. The final rule allows for ADB technology to be safely and securely installed on vehicles in the United States.
