Harvard Study Finds EV Charging Network Worsening in Rural Communities
A study conducted by researchers at Harvard University has found that some rural communities are losing access to EV charging infrastructure.
According to the study, there are thirty-four counties in the United States that used to have operating EV charging stations that no longer have any EV charging stations in operation. Another thirty-six counties saw over half of their charging stations become nonoperational. All seventy of these counties are in rural areas.
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into federal law in 2021 included $5 billion in funds for installing charging stations every 50 miles along key highway corridors. Construction has begun on only a small fraction of the stations funded by the infrastructure bill.
